With
the history of Los Angeles as a special interest, the Historical
Society of Southern California (HSSC), founded in 1883, is the oldest
historical society in California. Our headquarters is in El Alisal,
former home of author, editor, activist Charles Fletcher Lummis.
HSSC
programs reach out to a diverse cultural community. They include the
Southern California Quarterly journal, a quarterly newsletter, and a
distinguished series of books. We also honor members of our community
with our Awards program. In addition, HSSC conducts day-long tours,
planned around specific historical themes.
The Historical Society of Southern California welcomes new members. If you like what you see here, join us won't you?
