Afternoons at El Alisal: Amita Raj

//   Past Events  //

Sunday, April 29, 2012

We will be joined by Soprano Amita Raj who will perform some operatic arias such as those that Mary Garden once sang for her ardent admirer, Charles Lummis. She was an honored guest at many of his “Noises.”

We will bring down from the upstairs workroom, where Charles Lummis had his two roll-top desks and the files for his correspondence, a small notebook with pink paper that appears to be a series of love letters from his first wife, Dorothea. The date on the front cover is “1883, April 15 — May 28.” They had been married secretly in September 1880.

Reception 5:00 — 7:00 pm.
